Refuge

Life needs wild places,

wilderness,

hedgerows for nesting,

damp loam for skittering

chitin-clad beetles,

sunlight, shadow,

leaf mold.

The mind, too,

seeks quiet places

where deep thoughts find shelter

undisturbed.
